- Robert Cox is the Foundations Coordinator in the Art Department at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He has taught Drawing, Painting, Color Theory, and Design at various schools including the University of Alabama and Young Harris College in Georgia. His work has been exhibited in over 90 regional and national exhibitions of art, including 10 one-person exhibitions. He received the Outstanding Teacher Award, College of Arts and Sciences, at UTC in 2005. He has also been the recipient of a J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship for study of the art and culture of Turkey. His work has been exhibited in over 90 regional and national exhibitions of art, including 10 one-person exhibitions. Robert Cox states: " This visual work reflects the biological richness of the Southern Appalachia region. Created primarily from direct observation, the work represents literally thousands of miles hiked and canoed in the remaining old-growth forests, swamps, rivers and mountains of the South."
- Motivations
- My visual research is concerned with humankind’s relationship with the natural world and with issues of sustainability, exploitation, and degradation. I employ a variety of media including graphite on film; charcoal and conte on paper; and oil and acrylic on paper and canvas.
