Acts 5:15 (King James Version)Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. What is striking about this verse is that something so banal, so disconnected, so passive can have an active and miraculous presence. In the work, I make the attempt to translate this event into a present day vernacular, using Peter Pan (also known to have an active shadow life) in the place of St. Peter. In this act, no miraculous healings were evident, but there was an enthusiasm and a recognized break from the routine. The presence of Peter and his shadow is admired, is interacted with, is photographed, and received with great pleasure.
For approximately 5 hours and 15 minutes Peter’s shadow fell upon the people of Chattanooga. What happened wasn’t miraculous, but magical, and that counts for something.*This work will be re-made for each city it is shown in, this image is from Act 5:15, Chattanooga*
